Hello, I am Diversity

Have you ever looked at a box of crayons? There are so many colors! Red, blue, yellow, green, and purple. What if they were all just one color? That wouldn't be as much fun to draw with, would it? I put all the different colors in the box. I also fill the world with different sounds, like a kitty's meow, a doggy's woof, and a little bird's chirp. I am in the garden, too, with tall sunflowers, small daisies, and sweet-smelling roses. All these different things make the world exciting and beautiful. Hello! I am Diversity.

I am not just in crayon boxes and gardens. I am in people, too! Look at your friends. Some have curly hair, and some have straight hair. Some have dark skin, and some have light skin. We are all a little different, and that's what makes each of you so special. People have always noticed this. Long ago, they saw that friends from other places ate different foods, sang different songs, and told different stories. Sharing all these new things was so much fun!

I work like a big, beautiful rainbow. Every single color is important to make the rainbow bright and complete. When we play with friends who are different from us, we learn new things and make our world a kinder, more interesting home. When you see all the wonderful differences in everyone around you, that’s me, Diversity, helping us all shine together!
