Hello, I Am Light!
I am the reason you can see your favorite toys and the yummy food on your plate. I peek through your window in the morning to wake you up, and I paint beautiful rainbows across the sky after it rains. I make the world bright and colorful. Without me, everything would be dark and sleepy. Can you guess who I am? I am Light.
For a very long, long time, people only saw me when the big, warm sun was out. At night, they would gather around a cozy campfire to watch me dance and flicker. I helped them see their friends' happy faces in the warm glow. But when the sun went to sleep, it was very, very dark. Then, a super smart man named Thomas Edison had a wonderful idea. On October 22nd, 1879, he figured out how to put me inside a little glass bubble so you could have me with you anytime. He called it a light bulb, and suddenly, nighttime wasn’t so dark anymore. People could read and play inside, even after the sun said goodnight.
Today, I am all around you. I help the pretty flowers grow big and colorful in the garden. I travel through tiny wires to light up the screen when you watch cartoons, and I shine from the faraway stars that twinkle in the night sky. I am here to help you see, learn, and play every single day. So whenever you flip a switch or see a sunbeam dance on the floor, you can give a little wave to me, your bright friend, Light.
