I Am Goodnight Moon

Shhh. Can you feel how cozy I am in your hands. My pages make a soft, quiet sound when you turn them. Swish, swish. When you look inside me, you see a great green room. There is a little bunny tucked into bed. A bright red balloon floats near the ceiling. And a quiet old lady sits in a chair, whispering, 'hush'. I am a special book. I am Goodnight Moon.

A kind lady named Margaret Wise Brown thought of my words. She made them sound like a soft, sleepy poem. Goodnight room. Goodnight moon. Another nice person, Clement Hurd, painted my pictures. He used bright colors for the start of my story. Then, as the bunny got sleepier, his colors got darker and cozier, like nighttime. They worked together to make me. I was born on September 3rd, 1947. They wanted me to be a special friend to help little ones say goodnight to the world and feel ready for their dreams.

For a very, very long time, I have helped children just like you get ready for bed. My pages help you feel safe and calm. It is fun to look at my pictures, isn't it. Can you find the little mouse hiding on my pages. He moves around. I will always be here for you at bedtime. I am your forever friend, here to help you say goodnight to your day and welcome sweet, happy dreams.
