The Story of the Water Lilies
I am a dreamy swirl of soft colors. Cool blues swish and gentle pinks float next to leafy greens. I feel like a quiet pond with little sparkles of light dancing all around. When you look at me, you can almost feel the warm sun and see dreamy reflections in the cool water. I am a place of peace and quiet, a happy, sleepy dream made of paint. I am a painting of Water Lilies.
I was made by a kind man with a big, fluffy white beard. His name was Claude Monet. A long, long time ago, around the year 1900, he lived in a beautiful garden that he loved very much. He even built a special pond just for pretty flowers like me to float in. Claude would sit by the water with his paintbrush and a big white canvas. He made happy little dabs of color, tap, tap, tap. He painted how the sun danced on the water and how my lily pads floated so gently. He painted me over and over again. He painted me in the bright morning sun and in the soft evening light because he thought I was beautiful all day long.
There are many paintings of me, like a big, happy family of ponds. Some of my paintings live together in special round rooms. When you stand inside, it feels like you are standing right in the middle of my beautiful, watery garden. People say I make them feel calm and happy when they look at me. I help everyone remember that there is magic and beauty in quiet places, like a garden pond. And you can find that wonder everywhere you look, you just have to keep your eyes open for happy colors.
