A Story of Our Big Family

Hello, my name is Abraham Lincoln. I want to tell you about a time when our country was like a big, happy family living together in one giant house. We played in the same yard and shared our home. But one day, our family had a very big disagreement. Some of the family members who lived in the southern part of our house thought it was okay to have rules that were not fair to everyone. They believed some people should work for others without getting to be free. This made me very, very sad because our country should be a kind and fair home for all people, where everyone is treated with love and respect. Every person in our family is important.

Because of this big disagreement, our family split into two parts. It was a very hard and noisy time, like when people in a house are yelling and won't talk to each other. It felt like one part of the family moved out of our big house. My job, as the president, was to help everyone remember that we are all one family. I knew we were stronger and much happier when we were all together. Many brave people helped try to bring our family back together. We all worked very hard because we wanted everyone to live in our big house in peace again, sharing and caring for one another just like a family should.

After a long, long time, the disagreement finally ended. Our family decided to be one big family again. Hooray. We all promised to live together and make sure everyone could be free and safe, no matter what. It is so important to talk about our problems and work together with kindness. Just like a family, our country is best when we are united and take care of each other. When we are together, we can make our home a wonderful place for everyone to live.
