The Story of Sticky Tape
Hello, I am a roll of sticky tape. I am round and I love to spin. The best thing about me is that I am sticky, sticky, sticky. It is so much fun to be sticky. I help hold your beautiful drawings on the wall. I help you wrap presents for your friends with shiny paper and big bows. Before I was around, it was very tricky to hold things together. People used gooey glue that made a big mess. But I am here to help keep everything neat and tidy. I am a super helper, and I love to stick around.
My story started with a very smart and kind man named Richard Drew. A long, long time ago, in the year 1930, he saw some painters who were feeling a little grumpy. They were painting shiny, new cars beautiful colors. They used a strong tape to make straight lines, but when they pulled it off, ouch. The tape was too strong. It pulled off the pretty new paint with it. Oh no. Richard felt bad for the painters and the cars. He thought, 'I can make something better. I will make a tape that is sticky enough to hold, but gentle enough to peel off without saying oops!'.
Richard Drew worked very hard. He tried and tried to make the perfect tape. Then one day, he did it. He made me. I was not just gentle, I was also clear like a little window. I was so excited. I knew I could help everyone, not just the painters with their cars. Now, I get to help you every day. When a page in your favorite book gets a little tear, I can fix it. When you make a special card for someone you love, I can hold it closed. I love helping you wrap birthday gifts and fix your toys. I am so happy to be your helpful, sticky friend, holding your world together one piece at a time.
