Aluminum Foil

Hello there. My name is Aluminum Foil. I am very shiny and bright. Do you hear that sound. Crinkle, crinkle, crinkle. That’s me. I love to make that fun sound when you touch me. My favorite thing to do is wrap things up like a big, shiny hug. I can wrap a yummy cookie or a piece of cheese. Before I was here, yummy treats would get all sticky and not so fresh. But I came along to help keep everything tasty. I love being a helper.

My shiny beginning started a long, long, long time ago. Some very clever people made me. It was on a chilly day, on December 1st, 1910. These clever friends, Dr. Lauber, Neher, and their company, wanted to find a way to keep candy yummy for a long time. So they worked and worked and made me. I was so excited. The very first thing I got to hug was a delicious chocolate bar called a Toblerone. I wrapped around it so tightly and kept it safe and sweet. I was so proud. I knew my job was very important. I kept the chocolate from getting melty and sticky, so it was a perfect treat for a little tummy.

At first, I only helped wrap candy. But soon, everyone saw how helpful I could be. Now, I am in kitchens all over the world. I get to wrap yummy sandwiches for picnics in the park. I keep leftover potatoes warm for later. I get to cover bowls of fruit to keep them fresh and sweet. I am like a shiny superhero for your food. It makes me so happy to know that I help keep your snacks and meals delicious every single day. I love being your kitchen helper.
