The First Car's Big Adventure
Hello. I am a car. Vroom, vroom. I want to tell you my story, which is the story of the invention of the automobile. Before I was invented, the world was very different and getting around was very slow. There was no vrooming down the street. People had to walk, walk, walk everywhere on their feet. Or they would ride in a bumpy wagon pulled by a horse. Clip-clop, clip-clop. It was very, very slow. Going to see grandma could take all day and all night.
A very clever man named Karl Benz made me in 1886. I was the very first car. I didn't look like the cars you see today. I had three big wheels, not four. And my engine was very small and noisy. It went putt-putt-putt. A brave woman named Bertha Benz, who was Karl's wife, decided to take me on a big adventure. She wanted to show everyone that I was helpful and not just a noisy toy. She drove me a long, long way to visit her grandmother. It was the first long car trip in the whole world. She was so brave, and I was so excited to go on a trip.
Bertha's big trip showed everyone how wonderful I could be. People saw that I could take them to faraway places much faster than a horse. Soon, Karl Benz built more cars just like me. My car brothers and sisters started rolling out to help people everywhere. Now, we are all over the world. We take you on so many fun adventures. I can take you to the park to play. I can take you to school to learn. I can take you to visit your grandparents for a big hug. Vroom, vroom. Where will we go together next?
