My Name is Eyeglasses
Hello. I am a pair of eyeglasses. Before I came to help, the world was a little fuzzy for some people. Imagine trying to look at a drawing that someone smudged with their finger. Trees looked like big green blobs, and words in books looked like wiggly, dancing lines. It was hard to see a friend's happy smile from far away.
Then one day, a long, long time ago in a sunny place called Italy, a very clever person had a bright idea. This was around the year 1286. He discovered that a special piece of curved glass could make things look bigger and much clearer. It was like magic. He thought, what if I put two of these magic glass circles into a frame. So, he did. My very first self didn't have arms to rest on ears. People just held me up to their eyes to see.
Suddenly, the fuzzy world snapped into place. The wiggly lines in books became letters and words again. Grandmas and grandpas could read bedtime stories, and sailors could see faraway lands. I was so proud to help. Over the years, I changed to be even more helpful. I grew comfy arms to hug your ears so I wouldn't fall down when you run and play. I started coming in all the colors of the rainbow—bright red, sparkly blue, and sunny yellow. My job is the best job in the world. I get to help you see all the beautiful, clear things around you, from a tiny ant on the sidewalk to a big, bright star in the night sky.
