The Story of the Flush Toilet
Hello there. My name is the Flush Toilet. Do you know what my favorite sound is? It’s WHOOSH. I love to go WHOOSH. It’s my special job. When you push my handle, I fill up with water and then WHOOSH. I wash all the yucky stuff away. Far, far away. Before I was here, it was very tricky to keep things clean. But I am a super helper. I make sure your bathroom stays fresh and smells nice. It feels so good to help everyone stay clean and cozy in their homes. Making a big splash is the best part of my day.
I wasn't always here, you know. A long, long time ago, in 1596, a very clever friend of mine named Sir John Harington had a big idea. He made one of the very first versions of me for a very important person, a queen. She thought I was wonderful. But I had a little problem. Sometimes, smelly air would sneak back up. Yuck. Many years later, on May 26th, 1775, another smart friend named Alexander Cumming gave me a special gift. He gave me a bendy, curvy pipe. This clever pipe is like a little water slide that stops the stinky smells from coming back. Now I could do my job perfectly.
A Helper in Every Home
Now, you can find me in houses all over the world. I am in big houses and small houses, helping families everywhere. My WHOOSH sound means I am working hard to keep everyone healthy by washing germs away. I feel so proud to be a helper in your home. Making your bathroom a clean and comfortable place is the best job in the world, and I love doing it every single day.
