The Story of Penicillin

Hello. I am a special helper called Penicillin. You can find me in medicine that helps you feel better. Sometimes, tiny little things called germs can make you feel sick and sleepy. My job is to be a superhero inside your body. I help you get strong again so you can run and play. I love helping people feel happy and healthy.

I was discovered because of a happy accident. On a sunny day, September 3rd, 1928, a very kind scientist named Alexander Fleming was working in his lab. He saw something funny. There was a fuzzy green mold growing in a little dish. But all around the mold was a clean, magic circle where the bad germs couldn't go. The mold was keeping them away. That fuzzy green mold had a secret power inside of it, and that secret power was me.

After Mr. Fleming found me, other smart scientists helped make lots and lots of me. They learned how to turn me into a medicine that could help everyone, not just the germs in a little dish. Now, when you get sick, I can go inside your body like a tiny superhero. I help you get all better so you can go back to laughing, playing with your toys, and having fun with your friends. I am so proud to be a helper.
