The Little Buddy on Your Wrist

Hello from your wrist. I’m a Smartwatch, and I love being your little helper. Before I could show you messages or count your steps, my great-grandparents were just regular watches. They were very proud, but all they could do was go ‘tick-tock’ and show the time with their long, pointy hands. They were good at their job, but I always dreamed of doing more. I wanted to be a friend who could play games, share secrets from your phone, and help you on big adventures. I didn't just want to point at numbers; I wanted to be a part of your day, making every minute a little more fun and a lot easier. I imagined myself as a tiny, powerful buddy, always ready to help right here on your wrist. So I waited for my big chance to become more than just a time-teller.

My family tree is full of some really cool gadgets. It all started a long time ago, in the 1980s, with my ancestors like the Seiko watches. They were the very first to have a tiny calculator brain inside them. Imagine doing your math homework on your wrist. Then, in 1994, my cousin, the Timex Datalink, learned a new trick. It could get information from big computers by looking at their flashing screens. It was like learning a secret code. But the biggest change happened when my super cool cousin, the Pebble watch, arrived on April 11th, 2012. Pebble was the first to really figure out how to talk to phones all the time. This was the secret I was waiting for. It showed all of us watches how to connect with the phones in your pocket and become true super-helpers. From that day on, we could do so much more than ever before.

Now, thanks to all that learning from my family, I am your adventure buddy. When you run and play, I count every single one of your steps to see how far you’ve gone. I can feel your heartbeat when you’re racing your friends, making sure you are healthy and strong. When your mom sends a picture message, I can show it to you right away so you don’t miss a thing. I can even play your favorite song to dance to. I am so much more than just a watch that tells time. I am your little companion, here to help you explore the world, stay connected with the people you love, and have fun every single day. I am your Smartwatch, and I'm always ready for our next adventure together.
