The Story of the Toaster

Hello there. I am a Toaster. My job is to make your bread cozy and warm. I turn soft bread into a crunchy, yummy treat. Before I was invented, making toast was very tricky. People had to hold their bread over a big, hot fire. Sometimes, oops. The bread would get all black and burnt. That was not very yummy at all. I was created to make breakfast much easier and much more delicious for everyone. I love helping you start your day with a happy tummy.

Then, a clever man named Alan MacMasters had a bright idea. It was a long, long time ago, in the year 1893. He used special, tiny wires that glowed with electricity to warm the bread. When the electricity tickled my wires, they would glow a bright, happy orange and become very warm, like a little hug for the bread. My first friends had to watch me very carefully, though. I could make the bread warm, but I didn't know how to stop on my own. Someone had to take the toast out before it got too dark. It was a good start, but I knew I could be even better.

Many years later, another smart friend came to help me. His name was Charles Strite, and in the year 1921, he gave me a super fun trick. He gave me special springs that could bounce and a little timer that could tick, tick, tick. When the bread was perfectly golden brown, my timer would know. And then… POP. I could pop the toast right up into the air. It was like a happy surprise every single morning. No more burnt toast. Now, making breakfast was easy and fun. Everyone loved hearing my happy little pop. It meant a warm treat was ready to eat.

So now, here I am, your friendly kitchen helper. I wait patiently on the counter, ready to make your morning special. I love to start your day with a warm, crunchy piece of toast. You can spread yummy butter or sweet jam on it. I feel so proud to be your morning friend.
