Theseus and the Minotaur

On a sunny, sunny island, there was a big, beautiful palace. In the palace lived a kind girl named Ariadne. But under the palace was a giant maze. The maze had walls that were tall, tall, tall. And inside the big, twisty maze lived a grumpy monster. The grumpy monster made everyone feel very sad. This is the story of a brave hero, a clever friend, and the big, big maze. This is the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

One day, a brave boy came to the island. His name was Theseus. Theseus was not scared of the grumpy monster. He wanted to go into the maze and help everyone. Ariadne saw how brave he was and had a clever idea. She found a big ball of string. The string was shiny and bright. She gave it to Theseus and said, "As you walk, unroll this string. Let it make a long, shiny path. The path will show you the way out." Theseus smiled a big smile. He took the shiny string and walked into the twisty, turny maze.

Ariadne and everyone else waited outside the maze. They waited and waited. It was very quiet. Then, they saw something shiny. It was the string. The shiny string made a path out of the maze. And who was following the path? It was brave Theseus. He was safe. "Hooray!" everyone shouted. "Hooray for Theseus! Hooray for Ariadne's clever plan!" Theseus was very brave, and Ariadne was very clever. Being clever and kind is a wonderful way to help a friend. And that is the story of the big maze and the shiny, shiny string.
