The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Hello there. My name is Lyra, and I live in a cozy little village on a sunny green hill. Our houses are warm, and the grass is so bright. Every morning, a young shepherd boy took our fluffy white sheep up the hill to munch on sweet grass, but he was always so bored watching them. The sheep were like big, soft clouds, and all they did was eat. This is the story people have told for a very, very long time, and it's called The Boy Who Cried Wolf. He thought it would be funny to play a little trick on all of us down in the village. It was not a very nice trick.
One afternoon, while we were all busy working, we heard the boy shout, 'Wolf. Wolf. A wolf is chasing the sheep.' We all dropped our tools and ran up the hill as fast as we could to help him. Our feet went thump, thump, thump on the path. But when we got to the top, there was no wolf. The boy just laughed and laughed because he had tricked us. A few days later, he did it again, shouting 'Wolf.' We ran to help again, and again, it was just his silly game. We weren't very happy about being fooled twice. It made us feel sad.
Then, one evening, a real wolf with gray fur and big teeth snuck out from the forest. The sun was going down, and the sky was turning orange. The boy was truly scared and screamed, 'Wolf. Wolf. Please help. This time it's real.' But down in the village, we sighed and shook our heads, thinking it was just another one of his tricks, so nobody went to help. The boy learned that day that if you tell stories that aren't true, people won't believe you when you really need them to. This old story from Greece helps us remember that telling the truth is so important, and it's a tale that parents still share with their children to help them grow up wise and kind.
