The Emperor's New Clothes
Hello! My name is Leo, and from my window, I can see the Emperor's grand castle with its shiny, golden towers. Our Emperor loved new clothes more than anything, but one day, something very silly was about to happen. This is the story of The Emperor's New Clothes. The Emperor spent all his money on fancy outfits and parading them around. He had a coat for every hour of the day! One sunny afternoon, two strangers arrived in town, claiming to be the best weavers in the world. They went straight to the Emperor and told him they could make him a suit from a magical cloth. This cloth was so special, they said, that it was invisible to anyone who was foolish or not fit for their job. The Emperor clapped his hands with glee, thinking it was a brilliant way to find out who in his kingdom was wise and who was not.
The Emperor, so excited by this amazing idea, gave the weavers a big bag full of gold coins. The two tricksters set up empty looms in a grand room in the castle and pretended to weave day and night. Swish, clack, went the empty looms. The Emperor grew very curious and sent his wisest old minister to see how the cloth was coming along. The minister walked into the room and stared at the empty looms. He couldn't see a single thread! But he didn't want anyone, especially the Emperor, to think he was foolish, so he said, 'Oh, it's beautiful! The colors are magnificent!' He hurried back and told the Emperor all about the wonderful, invisible fabric. Soon, everyone in the city was talking about the amazing cloth, though no one had actually seen it. Finally, the Emperor went to see it for himself. He saw nothing at all! But, not wanting to seem silly, he pretended to be amazed. 'It's absolutely splendid!' he declared. The weavers worked for many more days, pretending to snip the invisible cloth with their big scissors and sew it with needles that had no thread.
The day of the grand parade arrived. The whole city was buzzing with excitement to see the Emperor's magical new suit. The weavers carefully pretended to dress the Emperor, lifting their arms as if holding a heavy robe and buttoning up an invisible shirt. The Emperor marched out into the streets, wearing only his underclothes. All the grown-ups in the crowd saw that he had nothing on, but they all cheered, 'Hooray for the Emperor's new clothes!' because none of them wanted to admit they couldn't see anything and be thought of as foolish. I was just a small child in the crowd, holding my father's hand, and I didn't understand why everyone was pretending. I pointed and shouted in my loudest voice, 'But he isn't wearing anything at all!'. A hush fell over the crowd, and then someone giggled. Soon everyone was whispering and laughing, agreeing with me. The Emperor knew then that I was right, but he kept marching proudly until the parade was over. This story teaches us that it’s brave to tell the truth. It reminds us to trust what we see and that honesty is the most valuable thing of all.
