A Hello from the Red Planet
I spin and spin in the big, dark sky, all around the warm, yellow sun. I look like a shiny red jewel twinkling for you to see. My ground is the color of cinnamon, all dusty and red. I have tall, sleepy mountains that reach way up high, almost tickling the stars. Sometimes, the wind comes to play with me. It makes big, swirling dust storms that dance and twirl all over. Whoosh. It is a fun, windy dance. I love to spin and dance in space. Hello there, I am the planet Mars.
For a long, long, long time, I was all alone in the quiet sky. It was just me and the stars. But then, people on a bright blue and green planet called Earth saw me shining. They looked through special glasses called telescopes and wondered about me. They wanted to say hello, so they sent me some special robot friends to visit. These little friends are called rovers. One of my newest friends is a brave little robot named Perseverance. It landed right on my red ground on a very exciting day, February 18th, 2021. Perseverance has wheels to roll around and camera eyes to see everything. It takes pretty pictures to show its friends on Earth what I look like.
My robot friends are so much fun, and I am so happy they are here. But I have a big dream. I dream that one day, people from Earth will visit me, too. They will fly in big, shiny spaceships and wear special suits. They can jump on my red ground and say hello to my tall mountains. When you look up at the night sky and see a little red dot, that’s me, winking at you. I am here to remind you to always be curious and dream big dreams about exploring new places.
