A Story from Mexico
I feel the warm sunshine on my face. It feels like a big, cozy blanket that keeps me happy all day. I have two big, sparkling blue oceans, one on my right and one on my left. They splash and play all day long. Hello, oceans! Tall, sleepy mountains stand like gentle giants, watching over all the little towns and colorful houses. I can hear happy music playing, making my feet want to tap, tap, tap. People are eating yummy foods that make their tummies smile. I am a land of bright colors and big hugs. I am Mexico!
A very, very long time ago, clever people lived here. They were the Maya and the Aztec people. They were amazing builders! They stacked big stones, one on top of the other, like giant building blocks. They built tall pyramids that reached up, up, up to the sky, trying to say hello to the stars. Then, new friends came sailing across the big ocean from a place called Spain. They brought new songs and a new language. I shared my secrets with them, like yummy chocolate and sweet corn. One special day, on September 16th, 1810, I decided it was time to be my very own country. Everyone cheered and had a big, happy party!
Today, I am a place full of friendship and fun! I love to have big parties called fiestas with bright paper flowers and happy songs everywhere. People wear colorful clothes and dance together. You can hear the lively mariachi music playing guitars and trumpets, making everyone want to clap and dance. And oh, the food! People love eating yummy tacos filled with delicious treats. I love it when visitors from all over the world come to see me. I want to share my warm sunshine, my fun stories, and my happy smiles with you. Come and celebrate with me!
