The Tallest Mountain in the World
I am so tall that I can tickle the clouds. The wind sings me sleepy songs as it blows all around me. My top is always covered in a blanket of sparkly, white snow. I watch the sun wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night. I am a giant made of rock and ice. I am the tallest mountain in the whole wide world. I am Mount Everest.
I was born a long, long time ago. The big, strong Earth pushed the ground up, up, up until I could touch the sky. I have special friends who live near me. They are called the Sherpa people, and they know all my secret paths. One sunny day, a long time ago in the year 1953, two very brave friends came to visit. Their names were Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary. Tenzing was a Sherpa, one of my oldest friends. Together, they helped each other climb all the way to my very tippy-top. They were a team. They were the first people ever to reach my head and look out at the world below.
I felt so happy when they stood on my peak. My big mountain heart felt warm and proud. They showed everyone that working together makes you strong. Now, many people come from all over the world to see me. They look up and dream big dreams. I love to watch them try their best. I am here to remind you that if you are brave and kind to your friends, you can do amazing things. You can climb your very own mountain of dreams.
