The River of Stories
I flow and flow under the big, warm sun. I sparkle like a long, blue ribbon stretching across a sandy land. Little green plants grow along my sides, and they tickle me as I pass by. Small boats float on my back, like happy little ducks bobbing up and down. I love to watch the tall birds dip their feet in my cool water. I have been here for a very, very long time, singing my watery song. I am the Nile River.
A long, long time ago, a special kingdom called Egypt grew right beside me. Every year, I gave the people a wonderful surprise. I would grow a little bigger and stretch over the land. When I went back to my normal size, I left behind a special gift: dark, rich mud. It was like magic dirt. The people used this soil to grow lots of yummy food to eat. They were so happy. A long time ago, around the year 3100 B.C., they used my water to help them build. They put big, heavy stones on boats and floated them on my back to build amazing pointy houses for their kings and queens. I helped them build the great pyramids.
Today, I am still here, flowing through the same sunny land. People still live in towns and cities all along my banks. Farmers still use my water to help their gardens grow green and strong. Children laugh and play near my edges, splashing in my gentle waves. My song flows on, carrying stories from long ago and making new ones every day. I am a river of life, and I am happy to help everyone and everything around me grow.
