The Big Blue Ocean's Story

I am so big I can touch the sunrise in the morning and the sunset at night, all at the same time. My waters are sparkly and blue. Sometimes I feel warm like a cozy hug, and sometimes I am cool like a yummy ice cream treat. I am a home for so many friends. I have little wiggly fish, giant whales who sing deep, rumbly songs, and happy dolphins who love to leap and splash in my waves. Can you guess who I am? I am the Pacific Ocean, the biggest and widest ocean in the whole wide world. I am so happy to meet you.

A long, long, long time ago, brave people sailed on me. They rode in special boats called canoes. They looked up at the sparkly stars in the night sky to find their way to new islands, which became their new homes. They were very smart and very brave. Much later, a long time ago in the year 1521, an explorer came to visit me. His name was Ferdinand Magellan. He sailed on my water for many, many days. He said I was so calm and gentle, so he gave me a very special name. He called me 'Pacifico,' which means peaceful. I liked my new name.

Today, big ships and little boats still sail across my blue waters. They carry happy people and wonderful things from one side of the world to the other. I help connect everyone like a big, watery hug. I am full of amazing secrets and beautiful sea animals. I hope you will come visit me one day. You can help keep my waters clean and sparkly blue for all the fish, the whales, and all the people who love me. I am here to remind you that the world is big and full of wonder.
