A Story from London
Vroom, vroom. Honk, honk. Big red buses whiz by me all day long. A wide, sparkly river flows right through my middle, with little boats bobbing up and down. High up in the sky, a giant clock tower chimes, “Bong. Bong.”. It tells everyone it’s time for a snack or time for a story. I have tall, shiny buildings that touch the clouds and old, cozy castles where kings and queens once lived. I am a city full of happy sounds and wonderful stories. My name is London.
A long, long time ago, I was very quiet. Then, my first friends came to visit. They were clever builders called the Romans. Around the year 47, they sailed across the water and saw my big river, the River Thames. They knew it was the perfect place to build a special town. They called it Londinium. The Romans built strong roads and cozy houses. Soon, boats brought yummy food and amazing treasures right to my door. More and more people came to live here. They built little bridges to cross my river and I loved watching them walk from one side to the other. I was so happy to be a busy, bustling place full of friends.
Today, I am a happy home for people from all over the world. They ride my big red buses and have picnics in my big green parks. Children laugh and play, and new friends meet every single day. I am a place where amazing adventures begin, right around the corner. I hope you can come visit me one day, and we can make a new story together.
