The Penguin on the Ice

Hello! I am an Emperor Penguin. I live in a very, very cold place called Antarctica. My home is covered in lots of snow and ice. Brrr! I have special feathers to keep me warm. My feathers are black and white, and they look like a little tuxedo. I also have pretty yellow spots near my ears. I love my beautiful, chilly home.

I started my life as a tiny little egg. My amazing dad took care of me. He kept my egg on his feet to keep me safe and very warm. He balanced my egg for two whole months! While he did that, all the other penguin dads stood together in a big group hug. This helped all of them stay warm from the cold wind. When I was ready, I hatched! Then, my mom came back to see me. Her tummy was full of yummy food just for me.

Now that I am bigger, I can waddle on the ice and slide on my belly. Whee! That is so much fun. But my favorite thing to do is swim. I am a super swimmer! I dive deep, deep, deep into the icy water to catch yummy fish and krill to eat. We penguins are an important part of our big, beautiful, icy home.
