Abraham Lincoln
Hello. My name is Abe. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1809. When I was a little boy, I lived in a cozy log cabin in the big, green woods. My home was made of logs from tall trees. I loved to read books by the warm, glowing firelight. Reading was my favorite thing to do. I grew very, very tall, so tall that my head almost touched the ceiling. My friends would say, 'Abe, you are as tall as a tree.'.
When I grew up, I wanted to help people. It made me happy to see others happy. So, I became a lawyer to help people with their problems. Later, the people of the United States asked me to be their leader—the President. It was a very important job. At that time, our country was very sad because it was arguing with itself. Some people were not allowed to be free, and that was not fair. I knew in my heart that everyone should be able to run and play and be free.
I worked very hard to bring our country back together, like one big family. I wanted everyone to hold hands and be friends. I helped make sure that everyone could be free. I grew very old and then I died, but I am so happy I could help our country become a kinder place. It is always important to be kind and fair to everyone you meet. You can help people, too.
