Pablo Picasso: Painting My World
Hello, my name is Pablo. A long, long time ago, in the year 1881, I was born in a sunny country called Spain. When I was a little baby, my very first word wasn't 'mama' or 'papa'. It was 'piz'! That's a short way to say 'lápiz,' which means pencil in Spanish. I loved to draw more than anything in the world. I would draw on anything I could find! My father, José, was an artist, and he was my first teacher. He showed me how to mix bright colors and make beautiful pictures. We would draw birds and flowers together. Drawing was my favorite game, and I played it every single day. I always had a pencil in my hand, ready to create something new.
As I grew up, I discovered that colors could be like feelings. When I felt a little bit sad, I painted everything with the color blue. I painted blue people, blue houses, and blue guitars. It was a quiet and thoughtful time, and people called it my Blue Period. But then, my heart felt happy and warm again! I fell in love, and I started using cheerful colors like pinks, reds, and oranges. I painted happy families and fun circus performers. This was my Rose Period. My paintings showed everyone exactly how I was feeling inside, like a diary made of paint. It was my special way of telling my story without using any words at all.
One day, I thought it would be fun to paint things in a brand new way. I decided to paint things like a puzzle! I used fun shapes like squares and triangles to show all the sides of a person or a guitar at the very same time. It looked a little funny, but it was my way of showing the whole picture at once. I lived a very long and happy life, and I painted until I was very old. I learned that art is about looking at the world in your own special way. So grab a crayon and have fun making your own wonderful pictures!
