A Story That Goes Round and Round
Hello! You see me every single day. I am the bright sun that wakes you up and the gentle moon that watches you sleep. I am the shape of your favorite cookie and the pizza you share with your family. If you drop a pebble in a puddle, you can see me dance and grow in the water. I have no corners and no pointy edges, just one smooth, round line that goes on forever and ever. Have you guessed who I am? That’s right! I am the Circle.
For a very long time, people saw me in nature, just like you do. They saw me in the pupils of their friends' eyes and in the round shapes of berries they picked. Then, one day, a very clever person a long, long time ago in a place called Mesopotamia had a brilliant idea. They realized that because I can roll, I could be used to make amazing things! Around the year 3500 BCE, they invented the potter’s wheel to spin clay into beautiful round pots and bowls. Soon after, they created the very first wheels for carts. Imagine a world without wheels! It was very hard to move heavy things from one place to another. But I helped fix that problem. My perfectly round shape made it possible for people to travel farther and carry heavy logs and stones easily. I helped people build, explore, and create in ways they had only dreamed of. You couldn't ride your bike or scooter without me, and cars couldn't drive. I was a rolling discovery that changed everything.
Today, I am still everywhere, helping and bringing joy. I am in the clock that tells you when it’s time to play, the ball you kick in the park, and the Ferris wheel that lifts you high into the sky. When you sit with your friends, you might make a 'circle of friends,' because I am a symbol of being together and including everyone. I have no beginning and no end, which reminds people that friendship and love can go on forever. So next time you see me, whether in a bubble you blow or a button on your shirt, give me a little wave. I’ll be here, rolling along, making the world a more connected, fun, and beautiful place.
