Do you know what a circle is? It goes round and round. What about a square with four straight sides? I am in all the shapes you see. I am the roundness of your bouncy ball. Whee. I am the pointy points on a shiny star. Twinkle, twinkle. I am even in the yummy triangle shape of a slice of pizza. Yum. I am everywhere you look, in big shapes and small shapes. Do you want to know my secret name? I am Geometry. Isn't that a fun word? Hello, it's so nice to meet you.

A long, long, long time ago, people found me everywhere they looked. They didn't have to go far. They saw me in the little hexagon shapes in a busy bee's honeycomb. Buzz buzz. They saw me in the tall, straight lines of big trees reaching for the warm sun. Way up high. In a sunny land called Egypt, a big river would get very full and cover the gardens with water. Oh no. When the water went away, everything was muddy. The people needed help to make their gardens again. They used me to draw straight lines in the soft sand. This part is for you. This part is for your friend. I helped everyone know where their garden was so they could plant seeds and grow yummy food. I made sure everyone had their own special spot.

I love to play with you every single day. When you stack your colorful blocks up, up, up to build a tall tower, that's me helping. When you draw a happy house with a pointy triangle roof and a square window to look out of, you are using me. I am even there when you cut your sandwich into two long rectangles. Yum yum. I help you build amazing things and draw beautiful pictures. I am in all the wonderful shapes all around you. Whenever you play with shapes, you and I are playing together.
