A New Nest

Have you ever seen a little bird build a brand-new nest in a different tree? Or watched a fluffy seed float on the wind to a new garden? I feel a little like that. I am the happy, hopeful feeling you get when you pack your favorite things and travel to find a new home. I am the big adventure of starting over in a new place. It can feel a little strange, but it is also very exciting. Hello. I am Immigration.

I help families move from one country to another. It is a very big trip. People pack their yummy recipes for cookies, their coziest blankets, and their happiest songs. They bring their special stories and fun games with them, carrying all their love in their suitcases. People have been doing this for a long, long time, since the world was very young. Many years ago, some grandparents and great-grandparents might remember arriving at a special place called Ellis Island. On January 1st, 1892, they sailed on big boats and were ready to say hello to a new life and a new home.

When people find a new home, they share all their wonderful treasures. They teach new friends their songs, share their delicious food, and tell their amazing stories from far away. It is like adding new, bright colors to a coloring book. I help make neighborhoods more exciting and the world a bigger, friendlier family. Because of me, we all get to learn from each other and make our world a more beautiful and fun place to share.
