Martin's Dream of Friendship
Hello, my name is Martin. I had a very big and very important dream. My dream was about a world where everyone could be friends and everyone could be kind. You see, some people were not treated nicely just because of the color of their skin. That made my heart feel very sad. I dreamed of a special day when all the little children, no matter what they looked like, could hold hands and play together. I imagined them sharing their toys and their happy giggles. My dream was about a world full of love and friendship for everyone.
One sunny day, on August 28, 1963, we had a peaceful walk to help my dream grow. So many people came. It was like a big, happy family walking together in a place called Washington. We sang beautiful songs about freedom and held hands to show that we were all friends. Everyone listened so quietly when it was my turn to speak. I stood up tall and told them all about my dream for a kinder world. I said the words, 'I have a dream!'. I felt so much hope in my heart that day. It felt like the whole world was giving us a big, warm hug, telling us that being kind was the most important thing.
Our walk helped make the world a friendlier place, but my dream is still growing. It needs helpers, and you can be a dream keeper. Do you know how? You can help my dream grow every time you are kind to someone. You can share your toys and your happy smiles with all of your friends. You can play with children who look different from you. Every single time you are a good friend and show love to others, you are helping my beautiful dream come true. You help make the whole world a brighter, happier place for us all.
