I Am a Submarine!
Hello. I am a little submarine. I love to swim deep, deep down in the water. Swish, swoosh, I go. I swim with the little fish and the big fish. They wiggle their tails and say hello. The water is so quiet and blue down here. It feels like a big, cozy hug. I can hold my breath for a very, very long time. I float and drift and watch all the bubbles dance up to the sunshine. I love exploring my quiet, blue home under the waves. It is my favorite thing to do.
My story started a long, long, long time ago. A very clever man named Cornelius Drebbel made me. He wanted to see the secret world under the water. On a special day in the year 1620, he built me. He used strong wood to make my body and a special leather coat to keep me dry inside. I felt so new and excited. For my very first swim, some brave people came inside me. They used oars, like little wings, to help me row. We dipped under the big River Thames in a city called London. Splash. Down we went. It was a little dark, but it was a big adventure.
My first swim was so much fun. It showed everyone that people could visit the world under the water. It was a big surprise. After me, my submarine family started to grow. Now, my relatives are very big and very strong. They are much bigger than I was. They can swim to the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean where the sun cannot reach. They find sleepy starfish and glowing jellyfish. They help us learn about our amazing world. It is always good to be curious and explore new things, just like me.
