Just want Turtle Ship?
Hello. My name is the Turtle Ship, but in Korea, they call me ‘Geobukseon’. I was built a very long time ago during the Joseon Dynasty to be a guardian of the sea. I didn't look like the other tall ships with big, white sails. I was low and wide, and my most special feature was my strong, curved roof. It was made of wood but covered in tough iron plates and lots of sharp iron spikes. I looked just like a giant turtle swimming in the ocean. This shell wasn't just to make me look interesting. It was my armor. It protected the brave sailors who worked inside me and stopped enemies from trying to climb aboard. My job was to patrol the waters and keep the shores of Korea safe from anyone who might want to cause trouble.
My story really begins with a brave and very clever hero named Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Around the year 1591, Korea was in a big fight called the Imjin War, and Admiral Yi needed a super-strong ship that could lead his navy to victory. He looked at an older ship design and thought, “I can make this even better.”. So, he worked with shipbuilders to create me. They used thick, sturdy pine wood for my body so I could stand up to cannon fire. They built my special iron-plated roof to keep my sailors completely safe from arrows and bullets. At my front, they attached a giant, fierce dragon head. It looked scary, but its real job was to puff out thick smoke. This smoke could hide me from enemy ships, creating a foggy surprise on the water. I wasn't slow, either. Deep inside my belly, dozens of sailors rowed long, heavy oars, pushing me through the waves with great power. And from my sides, many cannons poked out, ready to make a big ‘BOOM.’ to protect my friends.

I sailed in many adventures, but I’ll never forget the famous Battle of Hansan Island on July 8th, 1592. I was not afraid. I sailed right into the middle of the enemy fleet. Their soldiers tried to jump from their ships onto my back, but my sharp spikes stopped them. Ouch. My strong shell protected me and my crew from their attacks, while my own cannons fired back. Working together with Admiral Yi and the rest of the Korean navy, I helped win that battle and many others. We made people feel safe again. I am so proud that I could help. Today, I am more than just an old ship. People in Korea remember me as a symbol of courage and clever thinking. I show everyone how a great idea, when built with strength and purpose, can protect a whole country and become a legend of the sea.
