Just want Achilles' Heel?
Hello there. My name is Achilles, and people used to say I was the strongest and bravest hero in all the land. From this sunny courtyard in ancient Greece, I can still hear the gentle music of lyres and smell the sweet olive trees. When I was a young man, I could run faster than a horse and was stronger than any other warrior. But I had a very important secret, something that made me different from everyone else. It was a secret that made me almost perfect, but not quite. I want to tell you my story, the famous myth of Achilles' Heel.
When I was just a tiny baby, my mother, Thetis, who was a magical sea nymph, wanted to keep me safe from all harm forever. She took me to a secret, enchanted river called the Styx. Its waters held a special magic that could make anyone invincible, which means they couldn't be hurt. She loved me so much that she held me by my little heel and dipped my whole body into the shimmering, swirling water. The magical river touched my shoulders, my back, my toes, and my nose. It covered every single part of me except for the small spot on my heel where her loving hand held on tight. As I grew up, I became the mighty warrior she hoped for, famous everywhere for my courage. I went to fight in a great conflict called the Trojan War. On the battlefield, I was like a whirlwind. No sword or spear could ever scratch me, and everyone, both my friends and my enemies, thought I was completely unbeatable. They had no idea about my one, tiny secret.
During a huge battle in the Trojan War, an enemy prince named Paris learned about my one secret spot from a god who whispered it to him. Paris knew he couldn't beat me in a regular fight with a sword. He was clever and decided to use my secret against me. Instead of charging forward, he picked up his bow and aimed a single, swift arrow. He didn't aim for my chest or my arm. He aimed right at my unprotected heel. The arrow flew through the air and hit the one place the magical water never touched. Just like that, I, the greatest hero of the war, was defeated. My story teaches us a lesson that is still important today. It shows that even the strongest and bravest people can have a weakness, and it is okay not to be perfect. For thousands of years, people have told this story to talk about being human. That is why, even now, when we talk about someone's weak spot, we call it their 'Achilles' heel', keeping my ancient story alive.
