The Tall Tale of Pecos Bill

Howdy partners. My name is Pecos Bill. The big, wide American West is my home. It is my giant playground. I grew up with a family of coyotes. Yes, a whole family of fuzzy, friendly coyotes. They had pointy ears and fluffy tails. They taught me how to howl at the big, round moon. A-woooo. Can you howl too? Life was a big, big adventure every single day. I was ready for anything. This is my story, the tall tale of Pecos Bill. I was the greatest cowboy of all.

I had a special horse. His name was Widow-Maker. He was so fast. He was faster than a zig-zag lightning bolt. Flash. My lasso was special too. It was not a rope. No, sir. It was a wiggly, rattly rattlesnake. He loved to play catch. One bright, sunny day, a big wind came. A giant wind started to spin and dance. It went round and round. It was a cyclone. Whoosh. Was I scared? Not one bit. I jumped right on that spinning cyclone. I rode it like a wild pony. I went whooping and hollering all across the big state of Texas. We spun and spun and spun so fast. We dug a big, long ditch in the ground. That big ditch is now a river called the Rio Grande.

After my cyclone ride, other cowboys told stories about me. They sat around crackling campfires at night. They told stories about my big adventures. They said I could lasso a shiny, twinkling star right out of the sky. They said I painted the desert with a giant paintbrush. My story is a tall tale. It is a story to make you laugh and dream big, big dreams. It shows that with a little imagination, you can be big and brave too. So if you see a little wind start to spin, just wave hello. It might be me, Pecos Bill, reminding you to have a fun adventure today.
