Stone Soup
A traveler named Leo walked a long, long way. His boots were dusty and his tummy was hungry. Rumble, rumble, went his tummy. He came to a little village with cozy houses. Leo knocked on a big red door. Knock, knock, knock. "Do you have a little food to share?" he asked. But the person shook their head no. He knocked on a little blue door. Knock, knock, knock. But no one had food to share. Leo smiled. He had a clever idea. He had a special, smooth stone in his pocket. This is the story of how they all made yummy Stone Soup together.
Leo found a big, black pot. He put it in the middle of the village. He made a small, warm fire. Crackle, crackle, went the fire. He filled the pot with water from the well. Splash, splash, splash. Then, Leo took out his special stone. It was smooth and grey. He dropped the stone into the big pot. Plop! Soon, a little girl came to see. "What are you making?" she asked. "I am making Stone Soup!" said Leo. "It is very good. But it would be even better with a bright orange carrot." The little girl ran and got a carrot! A farmer came and put in a big, round potato. A baker added a small, white onion. In went the carrot. In went the potato. In went the onion!
Soon, the pot was full of yummy soup. Mmm, what a wonderful smell it made! The soup bubbled in the big, black pot. Bubble, bubble, bubble. All the villagers came with their bowls. Everyone sat together and shared the warm soup. They laughed and ate the yummy soup. The stone was just a stone. The real magic was sharing. When everyone shares a little bit, they can make a big feast for everyone. And that is the happy, yummy story of Stone Soup.
