The Seeing Eye

Hello! We are The Seeing Eye. We have a very special job. We are a school, but not a school for children. We are a school for smart and friendly dogs! We teach these wonderful dogs how to become amazing helpers for people who cannot see well.

Our school started a long time ago. We wanted to help people be more independent. This means they can do more things on their own. We do this by training dogs to be very special helpers called guide dogs. These dogs learn how to keep their person safe when they are walking outside. They learn to stop at streets and walk around things that might be in the way, like a puddle or a toy.

After a dog learns all of its special skills at our school, we do something very important. We introduce the guide dog to its new human partner. It is like meeting a new best friend! But we don’t just give them the dog. We teach the person and the dog how to work together as a team.

The person learns how to tell the dog where they want to go, and the dog learns how to guide them there safely. Together, they can go almost anywhere! They can walk to the store, visit friends, or go to the park. This teamwork helps the person travel safely and feel more confident.

Today, we are still a school for guide dogs. We love seeing our smart dogs and their human partners working together. It makes us happy to know that these amazing teams can explore the world safely, side by side.
