A Mountain's Tale

I am super long, like a giant, bumpy snake sleeping along the edge of the world. I stretch and wiggle all the way down a big piece of land called South America. My tops are very high, so high that they are covered in sparkly white snow all year round. Fluffy white clouds float by and tickle my peaks. I am very old and very strong. I love to watch the sun rise and set from way up high in the sky. I am the Andes Mountains.

I was made when giant puzzle pieces under the Earth pushed and pushed, and pop. Up I went, reaching for the sky. A long, long time ago, around the year 1400, my special friends lived here. They were called the Inca people. They were very clever and built amazing cities made of big, strong stones right on my sides. They fit the stones together perfectly. I also have fluffy friends called llamas who climb all over me, and big birds called condors with giant wings who soar high above my peaks. We are all one big, happy family living together.

Today, friendly people still live in my warm valleys tucked between my tall parts. They grow yummy food like potatoes and corn in little gardens on my slopes. Children laugh and play here, and visitors come from far away to see how beautiful I am. I am a home for people and animals. I am a playground for adventurers. And I am a beautiful sight for everyone to enjoy. I will always be here, standing tall and strong, watching over all my friends and reaching for the stars.
