The Great Pyramid of Giza
I am very, very big. I am a pointy shape that touches the sky. The sun makes me feel warm all day long. I live in a place with golden sand everywhere you look. The sand tickles my bottom corners. I am made of giant, heavy blocks, stacked up, up, up. It took a long time to put all my blocks together. I have been watching the sun rise and set for thousands of years. I am a sandy giant, strong and tall, and I have a wonderful story to tell you.
Hello. I am the Great Pyramid of Giza. I was built to be a forever home for a very important king called a pharaoh. His name was Khufu, and he wanted a special place to rest that was safe and grand. A long, long time ago, around the year 2580 BCE, thousands of clever and strong people came to help build me. They worked together like a big team. They pushed and pulled my giant stones and stacked them carefully, one on top of the other, just like you stack your building blocks. They built me higher and higher until my tippy-top pointed right at the stars. It was hard work, but they did it together to make a beautiful, strong home for their king.
And guess what? I am still here today. After thousands and thousands of birthdays, I still stand tall in the warm sun. The wind blows the sand around me, but I do not move. People from all over the world travel on planes and boats just to come and see me. They look up at my pointy top and say, “Wow.”. I love having visitors. I stand here to show everyone what amazing things people can do when they work together. I am a big, stony hello from the past, reminding you to always dream big.
