The Story of the Giant Stone Circle
I stand in a big green field under a giant blue sky. The wind whispers secrets to me as it tickles the tall grass all around. My stones are very big and very old. Some stand up tall, and some lie across the top, like a doorway to the sky. All day long, the sun warms me up, and at night, the moon and stars twinkle down on me. I am a circle of giant stones. I am Stonehenge.
Friends built me a long, long time ago, around the year 3000 BCE. There were no big trucks or cranes back then. People worked together to bring me here. They pulled my big gray stones with strong ropes. Heave! Ho! They pushed and pulled together. Other friends brought my smaller blue stones from a place far away. It was hard work, but they were a team. They carefully placed each stone, one by one, like you stack your blocks. They wanted to make something special, a circle of friendship and strength that would stand tall for a very long time.
I am a special place for the sun. I watch it wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night. On the longest day of the year, the sun peeks right through my special stone doorway. It’s like a happy hello. Today, friends from all over the world still come to visit me. They stand inside my circle and watch the sun rise, just like people did long ago. I am here to remind everyone that when we work together, we can make big, wonderful things that last forever and ever.
