Just want Sydney Harbour Bridge?
I stretch high over the sparkly blue water in a big, sunny city. I look like a giant silver coathanger reaching from one side to the other. Boats toot hello as they sail underneath my big arch. I am the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
A very kind man named Dr. John Bradfield had a big idea. He wanted to connect the city. So on July 28th, 1923, lots of busy workers started building me. They used big pieces of steel, like giant building blocks. My two sides grew and grew toward each other over the water. It was so exciting. In 1930, my two halves finally met in the middle and touched. Hooray. After that, they finished building my road. I was all ready for my big opening party on March 19th, 1932.
Now, my job is to help everyone. Cars and buses drive on my back. Trains rumble through my tummy. People walk and ride their bikes on me and look at the beautiful view. When it gets dark, I sparkle with pretty lights. On New Year's Eve, I wear a beautiful coat of fireworks. It is my favorite night. I love connecting people and making them smile.
