Tayrona National Park

Hello there. Can you hear the ocean whisper to my sandy shores and the monkeys chatter high in my green, leafy trees. I am a secret place where tall mountains covered in jungle meet the bright blue sea. I am Tayrona National Park, a magical home for sleepy sloths, colorful birds, and ancient stories. I live in a warm country called Colombia, right where the land kisses the big, beautiful Caribbean Sea. My air is warm and my trees are so tall they tickle the clouds. It feels like a big, cozy hug from nature.

A very long time ago, starting around the year 200, special people called the Tayrona lived here. They were my first friends. They built amazing stone paths through my jungles, like little roads for their feet. They also built cozy round houses to live in. For many, many years after they left, it was just me and my animal friends. The monkeys played and the birds sang their songs. Then, on April 23rd, 1964, people decided I was so beautiful and important that I should be a special park. They wanted to protect me forever so everyone, including you, could come and visit my wonderful home.

Today, I am a happy home for so many creatures. You can see bright blue crabs scuttling on my beaches and hear the loud calls of howler monkeys from the treetops. Children just like you come to walk my old stone paths, splash in my warm waters, and listen to the songs of the jungle. I love sharing my beauty and my secrets. When you visit, you help keep my home safe for all the animals and plants for years and years to come. I am here to remind you how wonderful our world is and how important it is to take care of it.
