The story

Puffin the Sea Parrot

Hi there! My name is Puffin, and I'm an Atlantic Puffin. I'm a seabird, which means I love the ocean! The first thing you might notice about me is my super colorful beak. It has bright orange, yellow, and bluish stripes. People sometimes call me a 'sea parrot' because of it. Isn't that silly?

Even though I have wings for flying in the sky, my favorite way to use them is underwater! I dive deep into the chilly ocean water and flap my wings to 'fly' through the sea. It helps me catch my favorite snack: yummy little fish! I'm a great fisher. I can even hold lots and lots of fish in my beak all at once, lined up perfectly to take back to my family.

When I'm not swimming in the sea, I live on tall, grassy cliffs right by the water. I don't build a nest in a tree. Instead, I dig a cozy tunnel, called a burrow, in the soft dirt. It's my safe little home. I don't live alone, either! Hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of my puffin friends live right next to me. We all live together in a big group called a colony. It can be a very noisy and busy neighborhood!

Being a puffin is a very important job. By eating fish, I help keep the ocean balanced and healthy for everyone. It's so important that we all work together to keep our beautiful ocean home clean and safe for me, my puffin friends, and all the amazing animals who live here.
