Humpback the Whale's Big Splash

Hello. My name is Humpback, and I am a giant of the sea. I am as long as a big school bus. I have very long, bumpy flippers that look like wings, and I love to wave them in the water. Sometimes, I get so excited that I leap right out of the ocean and make a giant SPLASH. It is so much fun to see the world above the waves.

My favorite thing to do is sing. I sing deep, rumbly songs that travel far, far away through the water. It is how I talk to all my whale friends. Each year, my song is a little different. It is my special way of saying hello and sharing stories with my family across the big, blue ocean.

Every year, I go on a very long swim. I travel from the chilly waters, where I eat yummy tiny food, all the way to warm, sunny waters. Humpback whale calves are usually born in warm, tropical waters, but births can also occur in temperate regions. I swim right beside my calf to keep it safe. The ocean is our beautiful home, and I help take care of it by singing my songs and splashing my tail. It is my job to be a happy, singing giant of the sea.
