The story

A Tiger Shark's Tale

Hello. I am a Tiger Shark. I got my name because when I was a tiny pup, I had dark stripes on my back, just like a tiger. It was so much fun swimming around with my cool stripes. As I grew bigger and older, my stripes started to fade away, but that’s okay. I still love who I am. My favorite thing to do is swim in the warm, sparkly ocean waters. The ocean is my big, beautiful home, and I get to explore it all around the world.

I have a very big appetite, which means I love to eat. I am not a picky eater at all. I will try almost anything I find swimming in the ocean. Because I eat so many different things, some people call me the ‘garbage can of the sea.’ I think it’s a funny name. I have a super sense of smell that helps me find food from far away. My nose is one of my best tools. My teeth are also very special. They are strong and sharp, perfect for crunching through hard shells, like the shell of a green sea turtle. My teeth help me eat foods that other sea animals cannot.

Being a big eater is a very important job. It might sound messy, but I am actually helping to keep my ocean home clean and healthy. I eat animals that are sick or old, which helps make sure the water stays safe for all of my fish friends. By cleaning up, I help keep our beautiful blue home in balance. Everyone has a special job to do in the ocean, and mine is to be a great cleaner-upper. Today, I am still swimming and helping the ocean. My story matters because it shows how every animal has a special job to do to help our world. I am proud to be the ocean's tidy caretaker.
