Cleopatra VII

Hello! My name is Cleopatra, and I was the last pharaoh of Egypt. I wasn't just any queen; I was born into a family that had ruled Egypt for 300 years! I grew up in Alexandria, a city sparkling by the sea, filled with towering lighthouses, grand libraries, and people from all over the world. Instead of just playing games, I loved to learn. I studied everything from science and medicine to history, and I learned to speak nine different languages! This was very unusual, as most of my family only spoke Greek, but I wanted to be able to talk to my own people and visitors in their own languages. It was important to me to understand everyone in my kingdom.

When I was eighteen, my father passed away, and it was my turn to rule. But it wasn't so simple. I had to share the throne with my younger brother, Ptolemy XIII, and his advisors didn't want a strong queen like me in charge. They forced me to leave my home, but I was determined to return. It was then that a powerful Roman general named Julius Caesar arrived in Egypt. I knew I needed a strong friend, so I came up with a clever plan to meet him. I had myself rolled up in a carpet and delivered to him as a gift! He was so surprised and impressed by my courage that he agreed to help me. With his support, I became the one true ruler of Egypt, just as I was meant to be.

As queen, I worked hard to make Egypt rich and powerful again. We had years of peace and great harvests, and my people were happy. After Caesar was gone, another famous Roman came into my life: Mark Antony. He was a brave general, and when we met, it was like something out of a story. I sailed to meet him on a magnificent golden barge with purple sails, dressed as the goddess Venus. He was captivated, and we soon became powerful partners. Together, we dreamed of a great empire that would stretch across the world, with Alexandria as its heart. We had three children together, and for a while, it felt like our dream would last forever.

But our dream was challenged by another powerful Roman, Octavian. He saw our strength as a threat, and a great war began. We fought a huge battle at sea, the Battle of Actium, but we were defeated. I returned to Alexandria with a heavy heart. I knew my reign was coming to an end, and I refused to be captured and paraded through the streets of Rome as a prisoner. I was a queen, and I would end my story as a queen. Though my time as pharaoh was over, I hope people remember me as a ruler who was smart, brave, and loved her country more than anything. I was Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt, and my story is one that has echoed through history.
