Just want Anaximander?
Hello. My name is Anaximander, and I lived a very, very long time ago. I was born in a sunny place by the sea called Miletus, around the year 610 BCE. I loved looking up at the twinkling stars in the big night sky. I also loved looking down at the big, blue ocean. I was always wondering how everything worked. I was one of the first people to try and explain our world using big ideas about nature, not just stories about gods and goddesses.
I had many exciting ideas. I made one of the very first maps of the world. My map helped people see all the lands and seas together. I had another fun idea. I thought the Earth was not a flat plate. I believed it was shaped like a big drum, and it was floating in the middle of space. To learn about the sun, I used a special tool called a gnomon. It was like a sundial. It made shadows on the ground, and by watching the shadows, I could learn about sunny days and the changing seasons.
I lived to be about 64 years old, and my life ended around the year 546 BCE. Even though I lived so long ago, people still remember me for asking big questions. My ideas helped people start to think like scientists, using their own eyes and minds to understand our amazing world. I hope you keep asking big questions, too.
