Hello, my name is Ayrton Senna, and I was a Formula One racing driver. My story begins in a beautiful city called São Paulo, Brazil, where I was born on March 21st, 1960. Even as a very young boy, I felt a need for speed. When I was just four years old, my father, Milton, built my very first go-kart. The moment I sat in that tiny car and felt the engine hum, I knew I had found my passion. It was more than just a toy; it was the start of a lifelong love for racing. I spent hours practicing, learning how to take corners and feel the rhythm of the track. In 1973, when I was 13 years old, I entered my first official race. The thrill of competing was even greater than I had imagined. A few years later, in 1977, I achieved a major victory when I won the South American Kart Championship. That win felt like a sign, telling me that my dream of becoming a professional racer was possible.
To become a world champion, I knew I had to go where the best drivers in the world competed. That meant leaving my home and family in Brazil, which was very difficult. In 1981, I moved all the way to England to chase my dream. The weather was colder, and I missed my home, but my determination to succeed was stronger than any challenge. I focused all my energy on racing. My hard work quickly paid off. In that same year, 1981, I won the British Formula Ford 1600 championship. This was a huge accomplishment and a great first step. I kept pushing myself, and in 1983, I won the British Formula Three Championship, which was a very competitive and important series. Winning these championships proved to the big racing teams that I had the skill and speed to compete at the highest level of motorsport: Formula One.

In 1984, my dream came true when I joined the Toleman team and entered my first Formula One season. That year, during the Monaco Grand Prix, something amazing happened. A huge downpour started, making the track slippery and dangerous. While many other drivers struggled, I felt comfortable in the rain. I drove with focus and speed, passing many cars. Even though I didn't win that day, my performance in the storm earned me the nickname 'The Rain Master.' My career took its biggest step forward in 1988 when I joined the McLaren team. It was there that I had the most successful years of my life. My teammate was another incredible driver named Alain Prost, and we had a famous rivalry. We pushed each other to be faster and better every single race. This intense competition helped me reach my full potential, and with the McLaren team, I won three Formula One World Championships, in 1988, 1990, and 1991.
Even when I was racing all over the world, my heart was always with my home country of Brazil. I loved its people, its culture, and its energy. Flying the Brazilian flag after a victory was one of my proudest moments because I always felt the incredible support of the Brazilian people cheering me on. Their encouragement gave me strength. As I became more successful, I felt a deep desire to give back to the country that had given me so much. I was especially worried about the children of Brazil who didn't have the same opportunities that I did. I had a dream of using my success to help them get a good education so they could build better lives for themselves.
Racing is a thrilling sport, but it is also a very dangerous one. On May 1st, 1994, I had a terrible accident during the San Marino Grand Prix. I lived to be 34 years old. I hope that when people remember me, they think of my passion for racing, my dedication to being the best I could be, and my deep love for Brazil. After I was gone, my sister, Viviane, made sure my dream of helping others came true. She created the Instituto Ayrton Senna, an organization that has helped millions of children in Brazil receive a better education. My story also helped bring about important safety changes in Formula One, making the sport much safer for all the drivers who came after me.
