The story

Charles VII: The Prince Who Became King

Hello. My name is Charles, and I was a prince in a beautiful country called France. I was supposed to become king when I grew up, but our country was having a very hard time. People from another land were trying to be in charge, and it made everyone sad. I had to hide far away, and I was not sure how I could ever become the king and help my people.

One day, something amazing happened. A young girl named Joan of Arc came to see me. She was very brave and kind, and she told me she would help me. Joan helped lead my soldiers, and she made them feel strong and hopeful again. With Joan by their side, my soldiers won a very important battle in a city called Orléans. It was like the sun started to shine on France again.

Because of Joan’s help, I could finally travel to a special church in a city called Reims. There, I had a big celebration on July 17th, 1429, and I was crowned the real king of France. After that, we worked very hard for many years to bring peace to our home. We made France one big, happy country again where everyone could feel safe.

I lived to be 58 years old. Today, people remember me as the king who brought France back together after a long, difficult war. They also remember my brave friend, Joan of Arc, and how we worked together to make our country peaceful and strong.
