Confucius
Hello, my name is Kong Qiu, but you can call me Confucius. I lived a very, very long time ago, in a land called China. When I was a little boy, just like you, I loved to ask questions about everything. Why is the sky blue? Why do birds sing? I loved learning. I also loved to play games where I practiced being polite. I would line up my toys and pretend to have a fancy party, making sure everyone was kind and shared with each other. It was my favorite way to play and learn about being good.
When I grew up, I had a very big idea. It was simple, but very important. My idea was that everyone should be kind and respectful to one another. I believed if we were all good to our families, our friends, and our neighbors, the whole world would be a happier place. So, I became a teacher. I didn't have a school building. Instead, I walked from town to town with my friends, who were my students. We would sit under big, shady trees, and I would share my happy ideas about being a good person.
My friends and students loved my ideas so much. They wrote down everything I said in a special book so that my words would never be forgotten. I grew very old, and then my time on Earth was over. But my ideas about kindness are still here today. They are still helping people all over the world learn how to be good to each other. And my message is for you, too. You can make the world a happier place just by sharing a smile and being kind.
