Dhyan Chand

Hello! My name is Dhyan Chand. I want to tell you about my favorite game in the whole wide world: field hockey! I loved to play with my special stick and a little ball. I practiced all the time because it was so much fun. I would practice in the sunshine and even at night when the big, bright moon was out. Playing hockey made me feel so happy.

I practiced so much that I got very good at moving the ball. It felt like my hockey stick and the ball were best friends. They always stayed together when I ran across the field. When people watched me play, they said it looked like I was doing magic. They gave me a very special nickname. They called me 'The Wizard.' It was so much fun to make the ball dance and zip around the field. I loved being The Wizard.

I got to play hockey for my country, India, with my team. We traveled to a big sports party called the Olympics. At the Olympics, teams from all over the world come to play games. We played our best and won shiny gold medals. We won a gold medal in the year 1928. Then we won another one in 1932. And we won a third one in 1936! It made our whole country so proud and happy.

I lived to be 74 years old. Today, people still remember me for how much I loved hockey and for being 'The Wizard' on the field. I hope my story makes you want to find a game you love to play, too!
