The story

Felix Mendelssohn: A Story of Music

Hello! My name is Felix Mendelssohn. When I was a little boy, born on February 3rd, 1809, my favorite thing in the world was music. Our home was always filled with happy sounds. I loved to sit at the piano and let my fingers dance on the keys, making up little tunes.

As I grew, I started writing my own songs. I would hear melodies in my head and write them down so everyone could hear them. I wrote one special piece of music in 1842 that you might know! It’s the cheerful, bouncy song that is often played at weddings when people are celebrating their love. It makes everyone want to smile and clap.

Sharing my music with the world was my greatest joy. I traveled to many places to play the piano and lead orchestras. I lived to be 38 years old. Even today, my music is played to make people feel happy, especially at joyful celebrations like weddings! My melodies are my gift to the world, and I hope they make you smile, too.
